The inside of an HVAC unit is very complicated.
Everybody loves their window air conditioners and central air conditioners, but a few people know how their precious HVAC units actually work.
When I was a kid I always wanted to be a cooling specialist or heating technician. My great grandfather and grandfather were both HVAC technicians and my dad was a local service provider. After watching my grandpa and dad work on HVAC technicians my whole life I decided that’s what I wanted to do. I went to college eager to learn all about furnaces and air conditioners, and I was confident I would do well. On my first day of class I was shown the inside of the hybrid HVAC unit. I was overwhelmed by the complexity of this HVAC unit and almost quit on day one. The next day I was shown the inside of a window air conditioner. I had my very own Window air conditioner in my room all through my childhood, but I never realized just how complicated they were. After four years of school I finally learned the basics of HVAC units and joined my dad in the cooling and heating industry. After a few years of experience under my belt I was no longer intimidated by the complexity of furnaces and cooling units. I was able to confidently fix air purifiers, and ductless heat pumps without help. I was even able to help others understand the heating and cooling equipment that so many are intimidated by because of its complexity. If you are considering being an HVAC technician, make sure you listen closely so you can understand later on in life.
