It absolutely dampened my chance to heal
If you have ever known a professor, you have easily known a guy who complains about their work, and most people go into teaching with easily fantastic intentions… However, oftentimes they become disillusioned easily early in their jobs… In fact, history has shown that over 50% of the professors in our state leave the teaching profession within more than four years; and personally, I was able to stay in teaching for 10 years! Unfortunately, that was only because I was unable to use my Summers to find another job for the previous 4 years… Yes, for more than three years, I searched for another job. Despite the fact that I stayed in teaching for 10 years, there is a single time that sticks out in my mind as the worst teaching time ever! That was also the year that the heating, ventilation, and A/C system went on the fritz. Our high university had 2 main buildings plus the gymnasium. I worked in what was called the outdated building. The entire English Department was housed in that building Oh, and that was the building where the heating and cooling system completely died out. The people I was with and I started university in November, which is the hottest week of the year around here, and every one of us entirely need a/c. Unfortunately, the maintenance people were unable to get the AC absolutely working in time for university to start. Therefore, our only chance was to use box fans. My classroom had only a single box fan and had absolutely no AC running. Not only that, I had surgery over the summer, and I was still recovering. I had a huge suture location across my abdomen oh, and it was constantly gross with sweat because there was simply no a/c. It absolutely dampened my chance to heal. Then, when Winter came, the heating, ventilation, and A/C unit was still broken, and every one of us all had to wear gloves and sweaters in the classroom. The year without heating, ventilation, and A/C was the worst year of my teaching job.
