She sat back down and said she hadn’t thought about that
I didn’t care about people who make rash decisions. I thought they should regularly come up with a weird scenario or an alternative that could change the course of their life, or might make it a little easier, then whenever I had a student come into my office and tell myself and others they knew just what they wanted to do after graduating from school, I would ask them if they can suppose of something else they would rather do? I wasn’t trying to dissuade these kids from their mission, but to make sure they were choosing the right path. One young woman named Anne came into my office and told myself and others she was going to go to job with her father after graduation. I asked Anne what line of job her father was in and she told myself and others he owned the local Heating and A/C supplier. I thought this was an admirable sentiment, however I didn’t want her to tie herself down right out of high school. I asked if Anne could suppose of something else she would rather do? Anne got aggravated with me, thinking I didn’t suppose it was right for a woman to be an Heating and A/C service tech. I tried to explain that Anne could go to university for engineering and considering building a better and more environmentally conscious Heating and A/C system. She sat back down and said she hadn’t thought about that. Anne apologized and told myself and others her mother was regularly telling that being an Heating and A/C serviceman wasn’t a woman’s work. I believed any woman could do anything a person could do; within reason. I just wanted Anne to suppose she could be involved in Heating and A/C and still do something enjoyable for the local environment.
