When I was a kid, my parents had a space furnace downstairs in the kitchen.
It was frosty all of the time during winter.
The house did not have really nice insulation… Sometimes there was ice inside of the house on the window. There was never any snow on top of the house due to the loss of heat. The roof was honestly warmer than the rest of the house due to heat rising. Snow frequently melted off the roof and ended up down on the ground. We had a lake of water in the front yard. My parents used space furnaces to keep the house warm. There was a space furnace in the kitchen. The space furnace was one of the large machines that had purple coils that get severely hot. One time my sibling touched the coils and he ended up with a big burn on the back of his hand. On one identifiable night, almost everyone was asleep. Our pet was downstairs as usual, but this time he decided to get into mischief. The pet was playing around and accidentally knocked over the space furnace in the kitchen. No one knew about the accident until the carpet caught on fire. My parents woke up in the middle of the night when they stinked smoke. We did not have any type of smoke detector or fire alarm in our house back then. We got out before anyone got hurt and my Mom put out the fire before it burnt down the whole house. That was one of the scariest situations that I have ever faced in my whole life.
