Dripping shower head

My shower has been quite a nightmare, however i decided that I was going to do a DIY approach & handle the plumbing on my own. I purchased all the necessary parts for the guts of the shower. I purchased the valve, head, drain, & stone for the shower. I installed & felt like I did a job well done, however a few months later my shower head started leaking. I learn it could be valve failure. I had to take out some of my stone to access the valve & maintenance it! Then a few months after that, the same thing. I did a bunch of googling & thought it would be the same thing. Time to upgrade the valve again. Instead of spending all that money, time, & retailing, I just called a licensed plumber. I was sick of stressing over something a professional could do. I had a upgradement valve at the ready & that wasn’t the issue at all. There was blatantly a leak in my wall that was going to cause major harm if left unnoticed. A pipe repair, leak detection, & scrub up was all that it took. The plumber was in & out with minimal disruption in my lavatory. I have to say the best part was not worrying about my plumbing at all. I liked just handing over money & not considering a thing. I was able to relax, have a fixed shower, & prefer the rest of my afternoon. I will alway hire a plumber from now on.

Would love to have that gas furnace moment back

I’m generally fairly on top of things around my house.

It’s not a great big house as it’s just my wife and I along with a couple of dogs.

We love this house and have enjoyed renovating it. That’s good because it sure needed a lot of work when we first bought it. But that was a given as we got the place for a rock bottom price because it needed some work. The first thing we replaced was the HVAC equipment. We live in a region where central air conditioning means there’s a gas furnace for the winter. We got the latest in HVAC technology when it comes to the gas furnace. It’s super efficient and has done a pretty wonderful job. However, I could have done a much better job when it came to the HVAC maintenance it needed. We’re now about 7 years into owning this gas furnace. Early this winter, I came home to a cold home which was the first time that had ever happened. If I could do it over, I would like that moment back so I could have called the HVAC company right away. Instead, I decided to take matters into my own hands and see what I could do with the gas furnace. I ended up finding what looked to be a burnt out switch and replaced it with one from the hardware store. Turns out, that switch was not factory authorized as a replacement. It ended up failing which caused the gas furnace to overheat. The HVAC company was able to come out and fix what I had done. But what they couldn’t fix was the fact that I had voided the warranty on my gas furnace because I was dumb enough to think I could repair it.

Learned about direct sunlight heating effects on HVAC

There is just so many changes that have happened in just a year. It’s hard to believe that we are headed into our second spring in this house. But at least, I have a much better understanding of how to get the cooling comfort we need without huge utility bills. This was a lesson I learned toward the end of last spring. My wife and I have never lived anywhere but in the city. That meant living in apartments with varying states of HVAC. Normally, we’d have radiant heating for the winter and then put in window air conditioners during the summer. This worked but it wasn’t actually ideal. We moved out of the city and onto a 20 acre plot of land last year. But we really didn’t know much about how to go about the heating and cooling of our new house. Since we didn’t have any neighbors for the first time in our lives, we didn’t feel like it made any sense to put up window coverings. We loved having the views and having all this privacy but that all changed once we got into May. It gets really hot here pretty quick and I had no idea the effect of direct sunlight heating on the efficiency of an HVAC unit. But let me tell you, it’s pretty drastic. I thought there was something wrong with the HVAC equipment so I called the HVAC company. The HVAC unit was brand new so there wasn’t a problem with it. It was a problem with us. Now we have solar shades that mitigate the direct sunlight heating and our utility bills are quite reasonable these days.

I always call the HVAC professionals for help

I’m definitely impressed by how some of my friends seem to be able to work on just about anything.

I’m not exactly that sort of guy.

For sure, mechanical abilities have always run in my family. And I was always following along with my dad when he was outside of the central air conditioning working on stuff in the garage. But it wasn’t the cars he was working on as much as it was him fixing household stuff at his workbench. Unfortunately, that gene just didn’t get passed down to me. I’m okay with simple stuff. I change the HVAC air filter regularly and mow my own lawn. But if it requires building something or dealing with electricity, I call the professionals. Whenever it comes to anything that has to do with the heating and cooling comfort inside our home, I call the HVAC professionals. That wasn’t the case for a buddy of mine just a few weeks ago. He came home to a house that was hot and sticky but the HVAC unit was running. He figured that all he needed to do was recharge the refrigerant in order to get the air conditioning back online. He did some online video watching before he headed off to the home improvement store to get the recharge kit. Unfortunately, this was not the problem and it was much simpler than that. So he ended up overfilling the refrigerant which ended up rupturing valuable components inside the HVAC equipment. I guess this is one of those times where it’s really good that I would never even attempt something like an HVAC repair. I always call the HVAC professionals.

Ready for spring with new residential HVAC

I haven’t enjoyed the new heat pump but maybe a small handful of times since it was installed late this fall.

We live in a region where we just don’t need too much heating. And that’s a good thing for sure. But man, I’m itching to see just how good this new residential HVAC is going to be. Last spring, the HVAC technician came out to do the air conditioning tune up just like he does every spring. This time, he left with a bit of a warning to watch the heat pump over the summer. The HVAC professional felt like the heat pump was starting to come to the end of its usefulness. So he made sure I understood what to look for when it came to the warning signs that the heat pump was dying. The biggest one, of course, is skyrocketing utility costs. Since we don’t have much winter, we make up for it with a broiling summer. That means there is a ton of need for air conditioning. The heat pump runs pretty much night and day in order to get the cooling comfort we enjoy in our house. At the same time, we’re always very disciplined when it comes to the thermostat in order to hold down utility costs. When August rolled around last summer, I noticed that the heat pump was running almost all the time. When I got that month’s utility bill, my suspicions were confirmed. Our air conditioning costs jumped more than 50 percent. So my wife and I decided to get ahead of the game and have the latest in residential HVAC and HVAC technology installed late this past fall. We’re eager to see just how great the air conditioning is going to be with our new heat pump.
