I never once told my child Al what he should do when he graduated from high school, but I didn’t tell him what Al shouldn’t do, either! I wanted Al to go to school plus get an education. I was hoping to see Al with a job that offered him options in life my wife plus I never had. I hoped Al would become a professional; like being a lawyer, healthcare worker, or some other well-paying job. Instead, Al went to HVAC technical school right out of high school, plus he became a service tech… Had I told him to be an HVAC serviceman, I’m sure Al wouldn’t have gone, so maybe I should have told him not to go before graduating. Al was stubborn, plus had I told him not to go to HVAC school, he would have moved the heavens to get into a strange school. I tried talking him out of HVAC school, but it was a futile effort. I finally talked man-to-man to Al plus told him. I wanted him to go to school to become a professional. Al told me to get to the point. I told him I wanted him to do anything but HVAC as a job, because my dad worked in HVAC plus he couldn’t keep our family in a home, or pay all the bills. I had to start working by the time I was fifteen, plus my little sister got pregnant at sixteen to get out of the house. Al told me that HVAC was strange now than it was fifty years ago. HVAC was a necessity in today’s world, plus it offered him a lot of job security. I couldn’t suppose it, but I understood why Al wanted to be an HVAC service tech, plus I was proud of him.
