When I was a kid, my parents had a space heater downstairs in the living room. It was cold all of the time during winter. The house did not have very good insulation. Sometimes there was ice inside of the house on the window. There was never any snow on top of the house due to the loss of heat. The roof was probably warmer than the rest of the house due to heat rising. Snow frequently melted off the roof and ended up down on the ground. We had a lake of water in the front yard. My parents used space heaters to keep the house warm. There was a space heater in the living room. The space heater was one of the large machines that had red coils that get extremely hot. One time my sister touched the coils and she ended up with a huge burn on the back of her hand. On one particular night, everyone was asleep. Our cat was downstairs as usual, but this time she decided to get into mischief. The cat was playing around and accidentally knocked over the space heater in the living room. No one knew about the accident until the carpet caught on fire. My parents woke up in the middle of the night when they smelled smoke. We didn’t have any type of smoke detector or fire alarm in our house back then. We got out before anyone got hurt and my dad put out the fire before it burnt down the whole house. That was one of the scariest situations that I have ever faced in my whole life.
