I knew my sister-in-law Pearl was gone for two weeks. Pearl was visiting their child who had just had a baby. Pearl wanted to help with the baby until their child was moving around a bit better after having a rough c-section. Two days after she left, her husband Jim called plus asked me to come over. Jim told me his wife had always wanted radiant heated flooring in the bathrooms, plus he required my expert opinions. I was a Heating & Air Conditioning business rep, however I wasn’t the Heating & Air Conditioning rep who worked with radiant heated flooring. That didn’t keep me from going to his house. Jim asked if his heating system would work with radiant heat. I didn’t know so. Jim had a traditional Heating & Air Conditioning system. Most locales with radiant heated flooring had boiler systems. The water pipes beneath the floors carry the hot water which heated the floors. Jim had a central Heating & Air Conditioning system which used HVAC ductwork to pull the heat to the rooms. Jim asked me if there were other ways to supply the same kind of effects as radiant heated flooring. Some of my previous clients had installed heat tapes under their walkways plus ramps. The electric heat tapes radiated heat up to the surface, so it didn’t allow ice or snow to form on those areas. I told Jim heat tapes should work just as well, or better, under the bathroom flooring. All I had to do was lift up the carpeting or tiles, plus locale the electric heat tape. Jim volunteered me to help him with the radiant heated flooring in his bathrooms. I was really the only Heating & Air Conditioning tech who would work with Jim for free.
