I knew growing up that I could never work an office job.
On TV and all around us, it is portrayed as something you are going to do eventually, but not me.
I was the creative type, and I could just feel the creativity drain right out of me in that kind of environment. Although my parents discouraged me, I still pursued my dream. I started with making jewelry on my own, and then selling it online. Surprisingly, my small time business did really well, and I expanded my knowledge to include other things. While I am still working on becoming successful, I am already doing a lot better than a lot of my friends and family thought I would. My boyfriend is the same way. He told me he also knew he would never work an office job. He is the kind of person that has to get up and move. An office job where you are supposed to sit for hours on end would drive him crazy. He followed his dream and became a heating and air conditioning unit worker. His passion is the HVAC industry and learning about all of the new HVAC equipment and heating and cooling technology there is. After he graduated as a certified HVAC technician, he was quickly hired by the local heating and A/C company. Ever since then, he has been working his dream job and he loves it. He actively encourages me to follow my own dreams, since we can both relate on not wanting to work an office, 9 to 5 job.
