There’s a lot of different parts and pieces in a full system HVAC installation.
Each one of these parts and pieces takes a specific amount of time and detail to install.
When I have to make a full system installation, I always tell the customer that it is going to take all day. It takes at least an hour or two to remove all of the old pieces of heating and AC equipment. If I have to complete the ductwork as well, then I can add even more time to the installation. Customers often don’t believe me when I tell them that it’s going to take all day, even though I tell them that there’s a lot of work involved. Just last week I had a full system HVAC installation. The customer had a faulty heat pump and decided to replace the heat pump and the AC condenser. I knew it was going to take at least 8 hours to get the job done and that was with a second technician working alongside me all day. I told the customer that we would need access to the house and someone had to be there while we were working. If I have any questions or concerns, I need to be able to speak with the owner of the house. The guy moaned and groaned when we hit hour five and we were only halfway done. It’s not convenient for the customer to stay all day, but it is a liability issue. I had some problems in the past and it is much easier just to have the customer home during the installation.
