Last week, lightning hit the immense pine tree in our backyard, and it landed on top of the house.
It was early night and my pal and I weren’t in bed; The tree broke the wall of the living room, and had my pal and I been in there, my pal and I would have been harmd, or worse.
It was raining hard, coming through the broken roof, and pouring into the house. I called the homeowner’s insurance dealer, who sent an insurance adjuster out within an hour. They assessed the situation and had someone there soon after to put tarps over the roof. There was nothing anyone could do until the rain stopped… She asked if my pal and I knew the a/c component was also broken. There were tree limbs impaling the AC unit, and she was sure it was going to need replacing. Once she assessed the detriment, she told me it was actually going to be a total loss, then with all the water detriment, and possible detriment to the foundation, it could take many months to rebuild. She gave us enough money to stay in a hotel for a week until she could find us an house while the home was being rebuilt. It was just our luck to get a hotel room that had a wet floor from a leaking Heating and A/C unit, and there was no a/c. I was glad when the insurance agent called the next day and told us my pal and I had an apartment, but my fine friend and I could get our personal belongings out of the home while she secured the apartment. She assured us it had perfect Heating and A/C and all the necessities.
