I bought my first house when I was twenty-two years old, and it was a huge, old farmhouse.
I loved that house so much.
After my husband and I got married, he moved into the farmhouse with me, and we lived there for twenty years. We would have never moved except for the fact that the house was basically falling apart around us. It needed so much work because it was very old. I did not want to leave at all. It took many tears and fighting with myself to finally give in and sell that house. My husband and I moved into an apartment for the time being. We are currently looking for a newer home to buy, but we have not been able to find one that we like yet, so we are settling into the apartment for the winter. We had to turn our furnace on for the first time this year about two months ago, and I am just now realizing how much money we are saving on our gas bill by living in such a small apartment. I never thought that I would like living in a small place, but I actually have learned to enjoy it. I had to get rid of a lot of things, but they were all things that I did not even need. When I consider how much money we are saving on gas and even our electric bill, I am convinced that I could enjoy living in a small house for the rest of my life. Heating our huge farmhouse was so expensive. I literally had to work part time over the winter just to be able to pay our heating bills. I think I can get used to living in a small space.
