My corporate journey to the top in the HVAC business

I started as a cooling specialist in the HVAC business about seven years ago and the journey, though filled with challenges, has been completely worth it.

I have gained a wealth of experience from cooling experts that I admire as well as the new contractors that are always joining the firm.

I have fought my way to the top and now I sit on the firm’s board of directors. I remember it like it was yesterday. My first assignment was to replace a heat pump that had a rusted and cracked heat exchanger, with a new mini-split air conditioner. On that job, I met the kindest old man. He was very impressed to meet a young back woman in a male-dominated job. He gave me many tips on how to circumvent the corporate world. He was a retired technician with years of experience. We ended up also changing his temperature control to a wireless thermostat. This was his grandson’s idea. The advice that man gave me has helped me a lot in my career. I was the first female director to partner with a manufacturing company for a new air conditioning system. Another one of my achievements includes creating an air conditioner tune-up guideline that was taken up by the HVAC industry as an accepted servicing manual. As much as I have numerous wins, I have also taken a lot of losses in this job. I once visited a residential house to improve the indoor air quality. Just as we had finished duct sealing, I was cleaning the HVAC duct when the zone control system automatically restarted. A whiff of dusty air was blown to my face that almost causing suffocation. I was rushed to the hospital by the customer.
