My son heard a noise in the chimney, and he panicked.

• He thought Santa may have gotten in the chimney and gotten stuck.

He wanted me to shine a light into the chimney and see if Santa was in there. I tried my best to convince him that Santa wasn’t in the chimney, but he insisted. When my husband got home, he shined the flashlight up in the chimney. He said he didn’t see Santa, but something more frightening. There was a raccoon in the chimney. He quickly put the screen up and blocked it off so the raccoon couldn’t get into the house. He stood there with the poker in his hand while I called the HVAC company. I wanted to know who we would should call to remove the raccoon without it getting injured, and he gave me the number of a live capture exterminator. I called the number and told them what we could see in the chimney. Two hours later, the exterminator was at the door. He went up on the roof and looked down the chimney and said there didn’t seem to be any obstruction. He wanted to set a smoke bomb off about three feet in the chimney and hoped it would make the raccoon move. If it didn’t, he was going to need to put a noose down from the top. Either way, he did it didn’t matter. I just wanted the raccoon out so we could use the furnace that night. It was going to get cold, and I wanted the fireplace to be usable while watching television with my two favorite men.

I knew it was less than a week before Christmas, but I needed to have my furnace inspected.

I remembered I hadn’t called the HVAC company when I looked at my calendar.

I always wrote when I had any work done in the house, and then I saved that calendar. I went back three months, and I didn’t see when the furnace had been cleaned. I called the HVAC company and told them I needed to have the furnace cleaned and inspected. The woman at the HVAC company told me it was a kind of late to have the furnace cleaned, and she wasn’t sure we could have it done before Christmas. I told her I forgot, but I had a party coming up in a couple of days. I didn’t want to worry about the furnace breaking down before or during the party, and all my family and friends leaving because they were freezing. The receptionist didn’t seem to care about my friends and family and said she would get an HVAC technician to my house when and if she could. I worried about the furnace, but it wasn’t her fault. I was the one who had let the inspection slide, and if something happened to the furnace before Christmas, or on the night of the Christmas party, I was to blame. I thanked her for doing her best and hung up. The following morning, the receptionist called me back and told me she could have an HVAC technician at the house that afternoon. I thanked her and almost cried because of how nice she was being.

I couldn’t think of the right words to tell the HVAC company what was going on with the furnace.

Everything I came up with came out sounding like I was stupid.

I had plenty of heat, and the airflow was phenomenal. The only thing I didn’t like was how there was a puff of dust coming out of the air duct when the furnace first started. I was sure there had to be a problem. My daughter thought we might have a dragon in the air duct, and my response was to roll my eyes. She ran to her father and told him mommy was being rude. He was laughing when he came into the kitchen to chastise me. I told him there was dust coming out of the air vent every time the furnace turned on. He asked if I had the records for the HVAC system. That would tell us when we last had the ductwork cleaned. I thought the paperwork was in the basement cupboard in the furnace room. He ran down the steps to look for the paperwork. He said he was sure he had found the problem. It had been nearly four years since the ductwork had been cleaned. He called the HVAC company to have the ductwork cleaned. If the dust was still coming out afterward, we had a more difficult problem to deal with. I rolled my eyes when I saw my daughter watching me. She patted my hand and told me I was a good girl for not being childish and rolling my eyes at her daddy.

Well, I may just write about life instead! I’m wondering if I made the right option in life when I left the corporate world and started our journey in the performing arts. There is a lot of loneliness as an artist, something you don’t seem to get when you are in the rat race of the working world and the family life like most of our friends chose. I get to know things they don’t too like the rush of performing onstate to a lively crowd and the feeling of accomplishment of making a current song. I work at the heating and cooling contractor near me doing Heating, Ventilation, and A/C component sales and service, but I only work there about 20 hours a week and have a lot of free time on our hands. My friend here, who has a thriving contractor and 3 teenagers, told me this week that he would go crazy if he had nothing to do and too much time on his hands. I told him that I worked a few hours a week for the local contractor doing Heating, Ventilation, and A/C technology work and I also told him that you have to learn to manage your thoughts when you have a lot of quiet time on your hands or you will go bonkers. I do a lot of meditation and a lot of reading in our free time and I am not sure I could handle the hustle and bustle of his life either. I like working on air duct and furnaces while I listen to our music on our headphones and whittle away the hours.

I could labor for our local contractor neighbor & make good money doing heating & cooling equipment repairs & things prefer that.

It looks prefer I may see some of our seasoned friends, along with a lot of our family members, as our mom is having a party at her beach beach house later tonight. It should be a fun time as I haven’t seen a lot of them in a long time. I am going to hang out with our friends under the main part of the beach house because there are going to be a lot of people there tonight. The two of us may go for a walk on the beach & take a look at the stars later on. My mom’s fireplace is going to be roaring & keeping everyone warm since the temps are going to go below zero later tonight… It should be a fun time & it is making me wonder if I should transfer back here a single day from overseas to be around all of our seasoned friends again. I labor for a heating supplier back overseas & could do the same thing here as I am a certified Heating & Air Conditioning tech & can pretty much labor someplace that I want. I don’t want to run our own supplier again prefer I used to do though because it just takes too much time to do so. I could labor for our local contractor neighbor & make good money doing heating & cooling equipment repairs & things prefer that. I will decide our idea in a year or more than one & go from there. The local supplier where I labor now told me they legitimately don’t want me to go though. The two of us shall see.

Last year, our partner & I celebrated our 25th anniversary.

Every one of us were going to renew our vows, & have the reception both of us didn’t have the possibility to have the first time around. Every one of us planned the celebration for the end of May, thinking it would be warm enough to not worry about heating, yet cool enough that air conditioner would not be a necessity. When the afternoon of the vow renewals arrived, I heard the oil furnace turning on. There was 3 inches of snow on the ground, & it was coming down suddenly, and by noon, when both of us were getting ready to go to the location & decorate, both of us had six inches of snow on the ground. Every one of us got to the location, & checked to make the rooms both of us had for the evening for our guests was available. Every one of us found out they had turned off the heat. I asked if they could have the HVAC plan turned on, so everyone was comfortable. They had the oil furnace turned off in the reception room both of us had rented. I had a dress that was sleeveless & I wasn’t sure if I had anything else that was suitable. I was angry that both of us had snow on this day. The vow renewal & reception was saved, when the manager at the location was able to get the HVAC serviceman there to turn on the oil furnace… Now, the only thing both of us had to worry about was if they were going to turn on the heating in the rooms. That entire wing of the hotel was separate from heat, & it had nothing to do with the HVAC systems. The electricity had turned off in those units, & they needed an electrician instead of an HVAC serviceman.

Our grandson was spending a weekend with his me & his pop pop when the oil furnace broke! Every one of us had a space gas furnace & suddenly put it in his room, however the noise of our calling the HVAC company & placing the space heater, woke him up… He thought it was cool that it was freezing in the house, & then he noticed that there were snowflakes in the room.

He had recently watched Frozen, & he started singing, ‘Do You Want to Build a Snowman’.

I told him I wanted him to head back to bed where it was warm, & hopefully the oil furnace would be working again when he got back up. I promised him both of us could build a snowman the following day. He reluctantly headed back to bed, however I heard him singing about the snowman for almost an hour. I was sure he was sleeping comfortably, when the doorbell rang, then my grandson got up & was running for the door. He said it had to be the oil furnace repairman. I told him he was called the HVAC serviceman, & he laughed at me. He said that if he repaired the oil furnace, he was the oil furnace repairman. When I opened the door, there was a female HVAC serviceman. My grandson held onto the door & sighed. He said that it takes a strong guy to accept he is wrong, & she was an HVAC serviceman & not a repairman. Even though both of us were all upset to have the oil furnace repaired, both of us had to take five hours to laugh at the four-year-old boy who made a joke of a terrible situation.
