One of my favorite things to do is to find hidden gem locales in the town that I live in and visit them, however i have found some great eating establishments and little artisan shops and art galleries.

I prefer supporting these small companies because they are the tploy backbone of our communities, but well in my quest to find my next adventure, I stumbled upon a nature preserve and critter rescue that was 10 hours away from my apartment that I had not heard about.

I instantaneously headed out to this nature preserve and when I arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by the entire operation, then not only did this nature preserve rescue critters however it also had a honey farm on the premises, but this meant that there were tons of jars of honey for sale as well. The kind man from the office took the time to explain everything about the honey farm after I mentioned that he had a lot of honey for sale, then he explained that they had just harvested their honey for the Summer. She went on to say that they only harvest honey twice per year, and once in the Summer and the other in the Fall. I had never thought about it, however that would explain why I could never find a lot of raw honey while in the Winter weeks. Not only is the honey not harvested in the colder weeks, however the bees remain in their hives while in that time of year. They form clusters to stay moderate while in the Winter weeks and when the Spring comes around, they are back out continuing the pollination cycle. The nature preserve is doing great labor and I bought 3 bottles of honey because I wanted to have excess for when the Winter arrived.

For the last twenty years, I had been a roofer until I fell off a ladder, and the customers’s dog was running under the ladder.

Just I stepped onto the top rung, the dog darted under the ladder plus sent it sliding sideways, and i tried to grab onto the roof, but I couldn’t quite get a enjoyable hold of it.

Three weeks later, I was still in a hospital reuseing from a broken back plus hip. I hadn’t worked since, plus now I needed to have my roof replaced. I called a roofing business plus asked for a estimate to have my roof replaced, then he showed up at the beach house plus started doing an estimate, plus I almost fainted when I saw the bottom line. I hadn’t worked in a year, but I didn’t guess the price of roofing material had gone up so high! Nor did I guess the wages of non-contract roofers had gone so high. I knew there was a problem, but I wasn’t sure how to approach this man. He seemed to be the style of person who thought he knew everything. My partner came beach house five thirds later, plus I showed her the quote. Before I thought, she was laughing plus told the guy I would have never tried to bilk a client this badly… She asked if I had told him I was a roofer until a year ago? The guy swallowed tough plus took the paperwork back while telling myself and others he had transposed some numbers, which made the price nearly $5000 more than it should be.

I’m sure you have heard about my dilemma with needing to find a roommate before I head off to the states for a month.

I have two cats and if I can’t find someone in the next two and a half weeks then I am not sure if I can even go.

I have someone maybe interested and they also have a cat, so we would have three cats in the flat now. As long as they all get along then I wouldn’t have a problem with her moving in. She works at a local business near me and would have the whole flat to herself while I am in the States. I am hoping it works out because it would be a drag to not go home for the holidays and toss away the ticket I bought. The owner of the HVAC business told me he could maybe take my cats and I also have another friend who is a local contractor who may be able to come by and take care of them each day. I guess they just need someone to come in each day and clean the litter and feed and water them. The HEPA filter robot vacuum could keep the place clean and my whole home air purifier would keep the air clean and fresh while I am gone. The biggest thing is cleaning the litter or this place could turn into a smelly flat while I am gone. My HVAC pro helper is also another one who said she may be able to watch the cats, so I’m sure it’ll work out.

I’ve been doing these cold water swims for a few years and haven’t had one cold or ailment since doing so

I want to get my HVAC system running well before I go to the States, because when I come back here there won’t be any remnants of warmth outside and my flat will be really cold too. I will return in the middle of January and start up my cold water swims again, but when I do, the water is going to be much colder than it is right now. I think the water will cool down to about 50F by the time March rolls around, testing the limits of my skin’s tolerance to the frigid waters. I want my furnace running well because I will use it a lot after those cold swims to warm me up and stop my shivering. I also take a hot bath after the swim to expedite the process. I have to set my hot water boiler’s thermostat to the high heat setting so when I fill up the tub I won’t run out of hot water. I’ve been doing these cold water swims for a few years and haven’t had one cold or ailment since doing so. I did have one instance of hypothermia, but that was my fault from staying in the cold water way too long. I think I am part shark or something! I also have a gas fireplace I use to keep my living room warm, but I don’t run it so much anymore since splitting up with my girlfriend. We used to sit by it and snuggle, and doing it alone just doesn’t give me the same feeling.

I love chocolate so much I can’t even begin to explain. It has gotten me through many tough days with its creamy sweet flavor and the way it wakes my brain up with endorphins. I like to eat this one kind of chocolate without sugar. It is sweetened with maltitol and doesn’t cause weight gain or cavities. I eat more of it on those rainy cold gloomy days when I am feeling down. Today is a sunny one though and I am eating my normal small allotment. I will go visit my HVAC serviceman friend at the HVAC provider store later to cheer me up and just to hang out for a while. The lady running the store is really cool and we usually all go to eat at some local business around the corner from them. I was working there for a while but decided to do more freelance work so that I could travel a bit more. I was selling new HVAC technology at that HVAC business for a few years till I decided to go on my own. They have a great crew there and I still like to go back and hang out with them when I have some free time to kill. I will probably work in the HVAC field for another ten years or so and then just focus on music for the rest of my years. I am going to go down there soon once I get this writing done and have some fun with the workers while they do their thing at the heating corp.

It’s not more money, it is more efficient than I thought it was going to be.

I didn’t have zone control HVAC in my life before, but now I can see why more and more people are getting it in their homes.

It just moves the cold or warm air to the rooms that need it and does so a lot quicker than the normal HVAC systems. I spend most of my time in two rooms of the flat; the office and the bedroom. The rest of the time is basically just passing through the other rooms. As far as the kitchen goes, when I am cooking the stove is a good enough heater to keep me warm in the wintertime. When it is summer and I am cooking I just turn on the small fan in my kitchen to keep me cool while I work the food. My flat has an extra bedroom that isn’t used much, but I think I am going to get a roommate soon, so I’ll have to open the vents in that room once again. I got the zoned heating and cooling system installed a couple of years ago and it has made a big difference in my power bills. Now I don’t have to worry when a bill comes in because I can pay it without taking out a loan to do so. I think I will start telling all my friends about this HVAC technology that can save you so much money. I bet a few of them will get the zoned system put in.

My body has been in hibernation mode ever since the temps dropped a few weeks ago.

Maybe it is an animal instinct or something, but ever since the sun started setting earlier and the temps getting colder, I just feel like sleeping most of the day and not doing much of anything.

The good part about winter for me is I can get to bed earlier and wake up earlier, as opposed to the summer where I would be on the beach till 11pm playing ball. I’ve been sleeping better too since turning off the air conditioner, which seems to blast into my room and wake me up a lot. The vent blows directly onto my bed and there is no way to adjust it differently, so now I am getting the natural climate control from the cold nights and not needing to run the A/C at all anymore. I don’t think I will run the heat at all this winter for sleeping as I like it quite cold in my room all night. I have some big fluffy comforters to keep me warm, so running the central heating or a space heater would make me feel way too hot. But in the morning it can be really cold so I may end up running the heater a bit to take the chill out of the air. The sun usually heats the place up in the afternoon as it shines through my sliding glass doors and heats up the wood flooring almost like they were heated floors. It works out great this way at least.
