Everybody knows that professors don’t get paid much.

This topic is always coming up in the news and politics, so it’s no surprise when you hear a professor talk about how underfunded the college is and her own pockets.

As a professor myself, I can attest to this and I’m guilty of complaining about my spend my money to almost everyone who will listen. What professors don’t talk about though, are the discounts and benefits they acquire for simply choosing a job in teaching. I acquire a discount at most stores and some benefits from random companies love the Heating and A/C supplier in my area. The Heating and A/C supplier I use has a more than 2 percent discount on all services for professors, military, and first responders. It took myself and others 2 years to realize that there was a discount for me. Once I realized it though, I never forgot! I utilize this discount every time I call the Heating and A/C supplier because Heating and A/C maintenance can be extravagant each year. Without the more than 2 percent discount, I know I’d neglect my oil furnace and because it would be difficult to spend my money for. Biannual Heating and A/C maintenance plus random repairs is extravagant. Ten percent isn’t a big saving, but it adds up when you have 2 Heating and A/C tune ups per year. As a professor, I’m thankful for companies who honor and respect the labor I do by offering a discount. If the government can’t spend my money myself and others more currency for educating the future, at least some companies can split back their costs where they can.

I thought all air filters were the same.

I thought an air filter was only an air filter and that there was nothing special about them.

They were simply there to detach dirt and dust from our Heating and A/C proposal and it didn’t seem love a complex item to make. All of the air filters I’d ever used were made of the same netting material and had the same cardboard around the edges. Of course the brands were different, but they all seemed identical in every other way. Of course, my husband was always the 1 to purchase the air filters and keep a supply at our house. All I had to do was go to the garage and unwrap the air filter from the plastic wrap before installing it. I never needed to go to the hardware store to purchase 1 and I was only judging air filters by what my husband picked out. When he left for a company trip though, I was forced to find an air filter myself. I went to the store and found the air filter aisle and was stunned by how more than 2 chances there were to choose from. I looked for a similar brand that we’d used in the past, but upon finding 1 that looked familiar, I realized there were weird sizes. I had no proposal what size our Heating and A/C proposal required. I had to call my husband and ask him about the sizing before I returned home. I thought picking an air filter would take 10 minutes but it took almost an hour!

Not having control over the thermostat makes the temperature of the room know so much worse… At work, there is a single thermostat that controls the space that I labor in with more than 2 other people, and don’t get myself and others wrong, the space is amazing and it’s comfortable for all of us to be working together under 1 roof.

There are also a ton of other things that are available to us throughout the day that make where I labor fantastic.

For example, there’s an unlimited tea bar with a barista 24/7 that’s there to keep almost everyone caffeinated and productive. The only thing I don’t love about my office space is the thermostat settings. There are 2 people in the entire building who are able to change the temperature and they rarely do. In fact, I know the only time they touch the thermostat settings are in the Spring and the fall when they have to make the manual switch between the and oil furnace. I don’t know I’d love the temperature setting as much if I could really change it myself, but there’s something so aggravating about not having any control at all. The temperature setting is something that almost everyone in the office is always complaining about and I’ve come to realize that it’s because there’s nothing else to complain about. If all of us could change the temperature, I know most of us would end up increasing it to the same or a similar temperature anyway. It’s the same concept of wanting what you can’t have.

Aunt Julie is the best man in the world.

And I like his tasty treats too. When I was young, I would like visiting his apartment to spend time with our cousins. I’m an only child so it felt enjoyable visiting them and I got to spend the entire Summer there. After high university, I joined school and summers were now for toil and other fun activities. One of our cousins joined the same university as me so all of us ended up having a enjoyable time. Now that all of us are all grown up and working, I don’t get to visit our aunt that often, but all of us talk a lot. The other day he was talking to me about this new A/C component that he had installed in his lake house. I recalled his saying something about replacing an ancient A/C component and it seemed he had done it before summer. However, this new A/C component wasn’t working as expected to keep his apartment cool. My aunt complained about his high cooling bill, and he also felt the new component was too powerful. I asked a few more questions and l acquired our aunt had hired a neighbor who was a retired A/C expert to do the task. But, it seemed he didn’t do it right. The best thing to do was call an A/C company in city and have them send over an A/C specialist to take a look. My aunt heeded our advice and the A/C specialist revealed the new A/C unit’s capacity was too immense for the lake house. His only option was pay for a new A/C component that fit the lake house, plus A/C replacement. Failure to do so, he might end up with more problems if he kept using the greater AC.

I was honestly excited to throw a housewarming celebration a few weeks after I finished settling into our new house.

I had a lot of friends and family members who were itching to see our new place and instead of hosting all the people separately, I wanted to do a single immense celebration.

This would save me so much time. On the day of the celebration, I noticed that our house was feeling honestly warm. After pushing a few buttons on our thermostat, I realized that the A/C wasn’t working. I wasn’t hearing it turn on when I lowered the temperature and nothing was coming out of the air vents. My stress levels went through the roof because I knew that I’d have to host a bunch of people in our house in a matter of minutes. Instead of setting everything up, I called the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C supplier and begged them to send an Heating, Ventilation, and A/C professional to our house. I was desperate for someone to come fix our A/C system! They couldn’t commit to coming to our house that day, but they said that they would ask the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C professionals to stop by if they had a spare moment. I was defeated because I honestly didn’t think anyone was going to come. I was beginning to call off the celebration when I saw the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C supplier truck pull into our driveway. I almost hugged the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C professional when he came inside because I was so thankful! I was even more thankful when he managed to fix the A/C plan and had it up and running before he left forty minutes later.

Is geothermal heating worth it? This has been a question running in our mind for about 2 years. This all started when I went to visit a neighbor of mine who lives in another state. She was consistently complaining about her heating idea costing her a small fortune. My neighbor lives in an section that receives brutal winters that start way too early. So, while other people are only using a heating idea in the night during fall, she might need it all day. As a result, our neighbor had to contend with paying high energy bills every month. Eventually, she spoke with her Heating as well as A/C professional about the high energy bills & asked for advice. Asking for help proved to be the right transfer since the Heating as well as A/C professional was more than willing to help her. She taught our neighbor about geothermal heat pumps & geothermal heating. It’s not cheap to set up, but it does wonders when it comes to lowering energy bills. My neighbor took it upon herself to learn all she could about geothermal heating & knew it was her saving grace. After saving for some time, she finally had the idea set up in her home. From the time the modern heating idea went active, I barely heard any complaints about high utility bills. My neighbor swears she found the best way to keep her beach modern home warm from mid-fall to the end of winter. And she no longer has to spend our money a small fortune for this privilege. Her positive experience with geothermal heating has me thinking I might invest in the same. The money isn’t an issue, but I’ve also been considering that this is an eco-friendly system.

When our wife mentioned the system of installing a ductless mini split idea into our basement instead of connecting our existing HVAC duct for central heat & air, I was against it.

The people I was with and I were renovating our basement & finishing it so that both of us could utilize the space as a family & for entertaining.

I actually wanted to continue using our central Heating as well as A/C idea because it would be sleek & minimal. The thought of installing a ductless unit to the wall was distracting to the eye & it would take up space. Ductwork & central Heating as well as A/C was all hidden behind the drywall & the only evidence of an Heating as well as A/C idea were the air vents. My wife was adamant about a ductless mini split idea though because she thought it would heat & cool our basement more efficiently. I knew she was particularly right, although I could not get past the system of having a massive piece of Heating as well as A/C equipment mounted to the wall. My wife would not be deterred, & she came to me with a ductless unit that could be mounted into the ceiling. The entire ductless unit could be installed flush against the ceiling so that there was no extra equipment hanging. The only thing people would see would be the outside of the ductless unit & the air vents that pushed the air out. The ductless unit could even be painted to match the color of the ceiling so that it blended in even more. This was the perfect solution for us!
