The A/C in the theater was fantastic

My central air conditioning is pretty good, if I do say so myself

I don’t get to watch movies that much anymore. Part of it is because I don’t think modern movies are as good as some of the older ones, but maybe I’m just biased. Anyways, it doesn’t matter. I was able to go and see a movie today, and I was impressed with some of the updates that they have made to the theater while I was gone. The theater had updated the seats, and made them more like a couch cushion than a regular chair, it was really comfortable. The second and biggest thing I noticed was the cold A/C. The original heating and A/C device in the theater was okay at best. It did a good enough job to where the theater wasn’t uncomfortable, but it wasn’t super cool and comfortable either. Now I could tell they updated their air conditioning machine, because the entire theater felt so much cooler and better. It made it even easier to get invested in the plot of the movie, when I felt comfortable. Before I left, I made sure to comment about how great the air conditioning was to one of the employees. It made me think of the central A/C that I have at home. My central air conditioning is pretty good, if I do say so myself. As much as I enjoy my home’s central HVAC, sometimes it is good to feel good ole commercial air conditioning. I think commercial A/C units are more powerful than regular residential cooling components.

Hoping I can get a deep soaking tub

I really want to change my normal tub with a deep soaking one.

I also want to have jets with it.

My husband has informed me that no way can this is not possible. I have a giant family bathroom. I am not afraid to mess around with the configuration. If a closet needs to be removed or a vanity shortened, so be it. My husband says that the floor joists won’t support such a heavy tub. Also, the plumbing would be too difficult. Thankfully there is a local plumber who I have used time and time again. He has helped me with all sorts of issues like drain line service, gas line repair and septic systems being pumped. I am confident he can handle my tub issue. I don’t really know what the difference would be with a deep soaking. It still would drain water like a normal tub. I guess the jets might affect the plumbing a bit? The weight of the tub is much more and it is a bit broader. I don’t think that should be a problem. Yes, the floor joists are angled in a way for a certain sized tub. I think by calling a handyman and coordinating with the local plumber, something can be done about this. I really like the idea of using my normal bathtub like a hot tub. I want to be able to relax on colder days with a book. It would be much cheaper than a hot tub and I think I would use it more if it was inside of my home.

Running is my favorite workout

Unfortunately, that would be way too hard on my hips, knees, ankles and feet

My favorite workout is to go for a run. I appreciate the simplicity of it. I don’t need any specialized gear or machines, and I can run just about anywhere. Whether I am at home or on vacation, I can usually find an ideal route. A decent pair of running shoes and athletic clothing that suits the weather is sufficient. I make sure to properly warm up my muscles before starting out and thoroughly cool down after I’ve completed the run. I am conscientious about drinking plenty of water. I have cordless headphones that allow me to listen to my choice of music. Because running is such a repetitive motion, I don’t need to think about what I’m doing. It is very different from jumping rope or lifting weights. It’s a great opportunity to clear my head and get rid of stress. Running is one of the most effective ways to burn a lot of calories in a short amount of time. I can easily add to the intensity of the workout by running faster, longer or introducing hills into the route. I’ve found that I can quickly improve my pace and stamina by running multiple times per week. I have mapped out an assortment of routes in my local area. I have one that is a quick and easy four miles that takes me right down Main Street. I enjoy checking out the various boutiques, restaurants and coffee shops. I have another route that is approximately ten miles and includes several steep hills. While the run is more strenuous, I always feel great afterward. I would love to run for my workout every day. Unfortunately, that would be way too hard on my hips, knees, ankles and feet. It’s necessary to give my body a break from the hard impact. I make an effort to swim, cycle or weight-train in-between.

Semi-private fitness training

No heating or cooling in workout space

I am fortunate to have a lanai constructed across the back of my house that is ideal for a workout space.

The floor is cement, the ceiling eight feet high and the dimensions are plenty big for my needs.

The one exterior wall is built almost entirely of screens, which provides steady ventilation. For most of the year, the weather in the local area is moderate. I appreciate access to a fresh breeze. I have a lovely view of the gardens and lake at the back of the property. I’ve outfitted my home gym with a yoga mat, incline bench, mini trampoline, set of free weights, jump rope and battle ropes. I have everything I need to target all of my different muscles, elevate my heart rate and work up a sweat. I focus on stamina, flexibility, balance, strength training and calorie burn. I typically spend an hour per day on my fitness routine. My only complaint with the space is the lack of temperature control. Because of the screens, there is no way to incorporate heating or cooling into the lanai. There are a couple months in the middle of winter when the outside temperature drops into the forties. I wait until the afternoon to workout, hoping to take advantage of the highest temperature. I need to dress in layers and I run a space heater. It still is sometimes impossible to sufficiently warm up my muscles. It’s difficult to get motivated and I worry about injury. There are also a couple of months when the heat and humidity of summer are brutal. I exercise as early in the morning as possible, hoping to avoid the heat of the afternoon. I run an electric fan at the highest speed and stand directly in front of it and yet am still dripping sweat before completing my warmup.

Workout program

Injury prevents working out

I devote approximately an hour per day to working out.

  • My exercise sessions include a diversity of activities, including jumping rope, running, cycling, abdominal crunches, lunges, squats and weight-lifting.

I rarely skip a day. Whether I’m tired, busy or suffering from aching muscles, I take time out of my day to focus on physical fitness. I have worked out when I’ve had a fever, a headache or felt congested. Due to a hectic schedule, I’ve completed workouts before the sun is up and well after the sun has set. Because I make fitness a priority, I feel strong and healthy. I sometimes push my body beyond what is safe or healthy. Last summer, I decided to renovate one of the bedrooms in the house. I tore out the ancient plaster and lath walls and ceilings and took the room down to the bare studs. I installed new windows, new wiring and added insulation. I then began installing new drywall on the ceiling. I am a woman in my mid-fifties, right around five feet tall and about 120 pounds. Handling the bulky, heavy sheets of drywall is difficult for me. Although I cut the sheets in half, hauling them up the ladder and screwing them to the ceiling was a challenge. I needed to use the top of my head and my left hand to hold the sheet in place while I operated the cordless drill with my right hand. The job was painful but I refused to give up. That evening, I was in such excruciating pain that I could only lie completely flat on the couch. I eventually figured out that I’d torn my trapezius muscle. The upper left side of my back swelled and turned purple. For three weeks, I couldn’t get off the couch. I was unable to leave the house or wash my own hair. There was no possibility of working out. When I could finally move around again, I was limited to riding the stationary bike with no resistance. I could only ride for fifteen minutes.

Getting into jumping rope

I have become dedicated to jumping rope. It was an activity that I really enjoyed and was quite good at as a child. However, I got away from it for many years. I am always on the lookout for new ways to workout and improve my strength and stamina. I read blogs and watch exercise videos provided by professional athletes. Many of them recommend jumping rope as a full-body workout. I bought a leather jump rope with weighted handles and began practicing. Initially, I struggled. I kept whacking myself in the legs or stepping on the rope. Despite incorporating a lot of running, cycling, jumping jacks and burpees into my regular training sessions, I lacked the endurance to jump for more than a minute. I gradually improved and began incorporating more difficult skills into my jumping routine. I learned how to complete crossovers, double-jumps, jump rope jacks, high knees and jumping on one foot. I wore out three different leather ropes. I finally did some research and invested into a system that includes a single set of handles that attach to four different weights of ropes. The ropes are designed from a synthetic material that doesn’t knot, tangle or tear. The metal clasps that link to the handles allow me to switch ropes quickly and easily. Plus, the ropes rotate more smoothly and swiftly. Each weight of rope provides a unique style of workout. The jump rope system partners with a free app on my phone. The app offers guided workouts of varying difficulty and lengths. It tracks my number of workouts, calories burned and the time devoted. I jump rope just about every day.

I am not always motivated to workout

Every day, I workout first thing in the morning.

I am committed to my physical fitness, health and overall well-being. I know that keeping myself in shape requires dedication and work. I benefit from my efforts by feeling energized, maintaining a proper weight and avoiding health issues. While my peers have undergone multiple surgeries and are required to take a variety of prescription medications, I strictly see the doctor for an annual check-up and take nothing but natural vitamins. I’ve noticed that many of my friends have slowed down and been forced to give up hobbies they enjoy. I still take my kayak out on the lake, ride my bike, hike, play tennis and tackle home improvement projects. I enjoy gardening, traveling and playing with my grandkids. However, I am not always eager to exercise. There are nights of insomnia that result in my feeling exhausted in the morning. I sometimes wake up with headaches, stiff joints or sore muscles. There are busy days when I can’t find enough time in my schedule to accomplish everything. No matter the excuses, I never skip my workout. I know how easy it would be to fall out of the habit. My exercise sessions are a priority. Not every workout is satisfying or maximizes potential benefits. I can sometimes use uplifting music to get myself motivated. I can frequently get inspired by following along with a workout video or an exercise app on my phone. Now and then I go for a very slow run or devote a lot of time to my warm up, stretching and the cool down. However, the majority of workouts are rewarding. I get my heart pumping, work my lungs and manage to get sweaty and out of breath. I push myself to be stronger, faster and have more stamina.

The deck replacement took a couple afternoons

My sibling Ed lives in an appealing part of the country, plus I am always envious of him.

  • Ed managed from a young age to learn all about remote work.

Ed has worked for numerous companies as a remote virtual assistance tech, digital SEO expert, and writer. Ed has never been a fan of a 9 to 5 task, plus prefers working in remote positions. This is how Ed managed to travel to numerous locations across the world. I am a dentist, so I had to work in a local hospital for years. But, I am now training to get my travel dentist license after Ed gave me that idea last year. Back to Ed, he recently purchased a lake house plus it’s in the most appealing location I have ever seen. I went to see Ed last month, plus he was having a deck supplier install a more up-to-date deck in the backyard. The front yard already had a deck, however my sibling is extra. Ed also felt he wanted a deck at the back, plus hired the deck supplier to take care of it. I was there when the deck professionals came to do the task. The outdoor deck replacement took a few afternoons, plus I must admit it was an excellent addition as well. Now, Ed is talking about hiring a roofing supplier soon to update his roof. It’s not worn out or anything, but Ed is slowly working on improving the value of the lake house. A roof update will be another step in that direction for sure.

Roofers

Ed called the roofing supplier to ask for assistance

Ed was over the moon when the realtor called with the news.

It had been 8 months since Ed started his house hunting journey.

And Ed was almost giving up on his dream to buy a house. It’s not easy today to find affordable housing given the rising costs across the country. So, Ed had done his best to save up for a big down payment for a regular dwelling for his plus his two dogs. But, Ed found it hard to lock down a nice house given the high demand, plus low supply in his area. Then, Ed’s realtor got wind of a house that was coming into the market, plus booked for an early viewing. Ed loved everything about the house, plus he enjoyed the calm location, so he put in an offer that was accepted. It took Ed 3 weeks to transfer from his house to the house. Then, he began putting plans for updates into action. Ed wanted to update some of the interior doors, plus consulted a door supplier in that area. They were experts in door replacement plus repair, plus had excellent reviews. Next, Ed wanted a thorough roof inspection, then she’d know if it needed repair or repair. The roof of the house is quite important, plus it’s important to have a roofing business take a look at it. Ed PCd a roofing supplier she’d seen online for assistance, plus they sent over an expert. The roofing business did a deep and thorough inspection plus informed Ed all he needed was roof repair plus he was nice to go.
