Gas heater stopped working, which was my fault

When my oldest child woke me up in the middle of the night from a really sound sleep, the first thing I noticed was that I could see my own breath.

  • I knew right then that my mistake had come back to bite me.

The gas heater wasn’t on plus it was one of the coldest afternoons of the year. My wife plus I sleep under a superb giant feather comforter over us so I didn’t really notice. I burrow down deeply into that bed plus let the comforter lock in the heat. Plus, I keep the thermostat in the mid 60’s at night to save some currency on the heating costs. Another thing I decided to save currency on was the heating repairs. And that was a major mistake. I really don’t know what I had been thinking. I know it’s because I did the same thing last winter plus the winter before. Since the COVID pandemic started, I’ve been finding any way I can to get the most from our finances. But going without the annual heating repair was clearly a mistake. Still, I thought that since I’d been pretty consistent for a great many years, I’d be able to squeak by without this Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C repair for a while. I put my oldest child in the hot spot next to my wife plus went down to see if I could restart the gas heater. Of course, that didn’t work so I had to call for an emergency Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C repair plus I could hear the money register sounds in my mind as I did it. The Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C professional was able to change out the damaged part pretty quickly. So I accomplished my goal of getting the heating back on. But he also confirmed that this was all avoidable had I gotten the heating repair.

My first residential Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C system

I have to say that being a first time homeowner is maybe the biggest deal of my life so far.

I agree that it was a really giant deal to get through school plus grad school.

That meant lots of time in the silent tombs of the library where you could only hear the quiet hiss of the a/c coming on; Getting my degree was a giant deal. So I was joining my colleagues inside the zone controlled Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C of the office where I started my first real job. All of those things were giant milestones in my development as a person. But I must say that being a homeowner is a whole other creature. This might have to do with the fact that it took me a dozen years of saving, planning plus searching to find this home. That’s a lot longer than it took me to get my degree. But trying to buy a cabin solo is about the toughest task that I’ve confronted thus far in being a grown-up. Finally, I’m out of the apartments plus am in a cabin with my own heating plus cooling equipment. This was such a giant thing for me. I just didn’t like the fact that I was always dealing with a Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C unit that was way past its prime. But that’s what you get inside most apartment buildings. And I wasn’t going for the high end on rent so I could save for a downpayment. Just having a more current residential Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C is such a game changer for me. The cabin that I obtained had a central a/c that was completely shot. That meant either ripping out all the old ductwork plus starting over or going with a different residential Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C method. I chose to get the ductless multi split system plus I couldn’t be happier with my final choice.

Bad A/C at the gym

So the cost of a membership for the local gym just went up again this year.

Much like everything else I spend currency on, this gym has been raising their rates as well.

This year, that just didn’t work for me. I’ve belonged to this small gym for over five years. That’s when I moved here from the city. I usually work inside the zone controlled Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C of our corporate offices. That’s where I had always wanted this job to end up. But our corporate offices are out in the boonies. I live in a small rural town now in a cabin with central a/c after residing my whole life in apartments in a major city. It’s a giant change even though I sure do cherish being a homeowner, having a superb central a/c system, 10 acres of land plus a short commute is awesome. Yet, residing in this small town can also come with limited choices. This was the biggest bummer when I moved here. And the small town gym with its terrible heating plus cooling is a superb example. I was shocked that the gym was raising the rates again this year. They added no value to the membership. And this was after a promise that the commercial Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C would be repaired and updated. That commercial Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C is just the worst plus I just couldn’t see spending more currency for worse a/c. There is a small gym inside the corporate headquarters that I’m using now. The a/c is far better even if there are a limited number of machines. I just go in there to do my physical resistance training. Then, I leave the a/c to do cardio on my own with hiking plus biking outside.

You can’t ignore the heating equipment

I find it so easy to not pay all that much attention to all the stuff that is entirely taking care of me in my everyday life.

And this has to stop.

Too often, I’m just counting on the heating plus cooling equipment to always turn on or the car to always start. But I’m not holding up my end of the bargain as much as I need to. So now, I’ve recommitted to being sure that I’m taking care of the stuff that’s taking care of me. The cars both got tune ups plus oil changes. I’m on a weekly schedule now with cutting the lawn. Actually, doing the lawn is something that’s superb for the home plus superb for me as well. I get a workout plus after that I cherish coming inside to drink a little frigid iced root budweiser plus soak up some cooling comfort from the heat pump. And when it comes to that central heating plus cooling equipment, I’ve had to step up my game there as well. I can’t forget to change the air filter for the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C equipment. I’ve been so inconsistent when it comes to the air filter. But that’s changing this Spring as well. I’ve got a system in my venue now where I get reminders to change that air filter. And I went to the cabin improvement store to pick up a full case of air filters so that’s not an excuse either. When it comes to the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C repairs on the residential Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C, I have that covered as well. I called up a local Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C company we’ve used since my buddy and I moved here to sign myself up for the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C repair plan. This now takes booking the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C repair appointments off of me. The Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C team now takes care of all of that so I don’t have to remember.

This is why we change Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C air filters

There is a famous quote that says, “Out of sight, out of mind” plus it couldn’t be more than true.

Personally, if something is not staring me directly in my face, I will forget about it.

This is why I depend so heavily on my smart phone for reminders. Frankly, I am not sure what I would do without my smart phone. I set all of my birthday reminders, doctor’s appointments, family events, luncheons and random repair tasks. For instance, I always forgot to change my Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C air filter because that was never something that was high on my priority list. Not to mention that the HEPA air filter is hidden inside the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C unit, so it’s not something that I see every day. And since the filter is out of sight, it’s never on my mind, plus will therefore be overlooked. Before I began using my phone for reminders to change my HEPA air filter, there were times that I wouldn’t change it for close to a year. And if you know anything about Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C units, air filters should be changed every 90 afternoons. It is necessary to change the HEPA filter every 3 months because if the filter gets clogged it could cause a lot of wear plus tear on a Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C unit. Furthermore, a clogged up filter can lead to bad air quality, not to mention higher energy cost. I have avoided all of these issues ever since I started setting a reminder in my phone; Other devices like Alexa plus a smart thermostat can help me with this as well… Use whatever works for you, however no matter what device you use, it’s smart to set reminders plus change your Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C air filter always.

My A/C repairs are coming up soon

Now that I no longer need to drive to work, I have been saving so much currency.

That is especially true, since I am no longer needing fuel twice per week.

I used to drive an hour to work plus back plus every week I would need to put fuel in my gas tank twice. It’s a blessing to be able to save that currency especially because the price of fuel has really skyrocketed over the last three years or so. Aside from saving currency on fuel, there is less wear plus tear on my car. This means that the life of the car will be extended, the mileage will be a lot lower than expected, plus I will also save currency on oil change plus repair. Prior to doing my work from home, I used to need an oil change twice per year plus now I am only getting it once. Typically, I schedule my oil change around the same time when I schedule the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C repair for my home. It might sound weird because my car has nothing to do with my Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C unit, even though I do it like this so that I don’t forget to do either of them. I schedule the car plus Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C repairs at the start of May because the dealership and Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C providers are much less busy around that time. Summer is a hectic month for mechanics and for Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C professionals because more people are on the road, plus more people are using their Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C units. Anyway, if the logic sounds flawed to you, just know that it has worked for me, so I will continue to schedule both repairs around the same time of year.

Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C updatement costs are a beast

As a new homeowner, you are always feeling distraught about the upkeep of the house.

There are certain tasks that need to be performed on the reg to ensure that the cabin remains in the most superb condition.

Not to mention all the equipment plus appliances inside the cabin will need to be checked as well. After all, if neglected, those equipment plus appliances can lead to thousands of extra dollars in repair costs. The one saving grace when it comes to high repair costs is purchasing a whole-cabin warranty. Most cabin warranty will cover any detriments to the cabin and to the appliances inside. So, if you’re anything like me plus you own an older cabin with older appliances, it’s superb to have the extra insurance coverage. Therefore, if the refrigerator, washer plus dryer, dishwasher or the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C unit breaks down, then the cabin warranty would potentially cover the costs of replacing the appliances. And given that the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C unit is one of the most pricey items inside the home, it’s just a wise idea to have a warranty that would update it if needed. A good warranty plan costs between $60 plus $100 per month depending on the terms of the plan. If you require to update an Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C unit, it would cost from $5,000 up to $12,000! Personally, I would rather pay the small warranty fee because it gives me greater peace of mind knowing that the cost of my Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C unit will be fully covered if it needs to be updated. And of course, that is the way for the other appliances in my cabin as well. I’d rather have the coverage than having to pay out-of-pocket for all the broken appliances in my home.

Are A/C units really responsible for 50% of cabin energy consumption?

I own a town cabin that is wedged between 2 other townhouses. And though all the people might love an end unit, I like living in the middle unit because it makes me feel safe plus protected, however for instance, if a big storm hits, my cabin will be more protected than the cabin on the end. Also, I am less exposed to the traffic in the street; Living in between 2 houses can also have its downsides. For one, if the neighbors were loud and noisy that could become aggravating. Thankfully, I have really quiet neighbors on both sides. They are quite quiet and the only noise I ever hear is the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C unit when I am in the yard. The neighbors’ Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C units cycle on a lot more than my unit does. And they are never in sync because as one cycles off the other will cycle on, then my indoor thermostat is set at 68 degrees which is the recommendation of the US Department of Energy. It’s obvious to me that my neighbors have their thermostats set at lower uneven temp. If I am resting in the yard for an hour, their Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C units will cycle on plus off at least twice in that span of time. Mine will cycle on once and maybe not at all. I use my Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C conservatively because it conserves a lot of energy and saves me currency on my utility bill. After all, the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C unit is the single highest consumption of energy in most homes! Based on the information that I learned from my local utility company, my Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C is responsible for 50% of my power consumption, so, it just makes sense for me to run my Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C less. If only the neighbors knew to do the same, they would save currency on their utility bills as well.

Heating systems and how they contribute to global warming

Yesterday night, my buddy Max and I had a torrential downpour of rain… In fact, Max and I were under a tornado watch for a few hours, however at first, I didn’t realize how bad things were outside until I heard the ice pellets of hail hitting my window, that’s when I discovered that my buddy and I were getting far more than just normal rain showers. Anyway, officially, after a day of rain, the temps outside are usually much cooler. And just as expected, the weather outside will be a high of 72 today. In my personal opinion, 72 degrees is the perfect temperature. It’s neither hot nor frigid plus it’s the perfect weather to open the windows to get some fresh air. And of course, when the temperature is 72 degrees, Max and I wouldn’t be using our a/c as much; Not to mention that if it was 72 degrees all year long, Max and I really wouldn’t need an Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C system at all. There would really be far less chatter about the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C units contributing to weather conditions changing plus global warming. If you didn’t know, based on research by the environmental experts, the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C unit creates 1,950 million tons of carbon dioxide each year. Some other experts predict that the red cabin gasses from the Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C will cause a rise in the temperature by over 0.5 degrees. That increase might not sound like a lot, however the experts know that it creates major issues for the entire planet; While I don’t mind using my Heating, Ventilation, plus A/C to remain comfortable inside my home, it would be superb if Max and I didn’t need to use the equipment. Not only would I save more currency, even though I would also have lovely weather all year long.
